SUMMARY

Our client is hiring a Science Teacher to join the team.

A suitable candidate should be a motivated and multi-skilled individual that meets the requirements of the role.

DUTIES TO INCLUDE

  • To create well-planned lessons and deliver them through effective and appropriate teaching methods, activities and management of class time.
  • To show a good understanding of the aptitudes, needs and prior attainments of the pupils and ensure these are taken into account in lesson planning.
  • To utilise effective strategies for managing behaviour and encouraging pupils to act responsibly.
  • To deliver intervention clinics and other academic support measures according to the needs of the pupils.
  • To regularly assess and review pupils’ progress and achievement and to communicate effectively with parents/carers in line with school procedures.
  • To work with the head of science to develop, implement and monitor effective schemes of work, course delivery, assessments, pupil surveys and pupil data in line with school policy.
  • Use attainment data provided by the school to monitor the progress of pupils taught, ensuring that effective use is made of the data to set targets for achievement.
  • Monitor the progress of pupils and identify underachievement ensuring programmes of support are in place to maximise the potential of all pupils.
  • Organise interventions to ensure that the targets of individuals and groups of learners are met.
  • To ensure that assessment is both regular and thorough and that full records of pupils are kept.
  • To participate in the procedures for lesson observation, and seek/implement modifications and improvements where required.
  • To produce reports on examination performance, including the use of value-added data.
  • To support in meeting whole school priorities and in realising the school’s vision.

KEY REQUIREMENTS

ESSENTIAL

  • First Degree.
  • Qualified Teacher status.
  • GCSE Maths and English (Grade A-C) or equivalent.
  • An understanding of the principles of assessment.
  • Experience in successfully supporting pupils as a form tutor or in a pastoral role.
  • Experience in working constructively to achieve team objectives and deadlines.
  • Thorough knowledge of current subject specialist developments.
  • Experience in creating and delivering engaging and challenging programmes of study.
  • Experience in delivering teacher training or mentoring.
  • Experience in identifying and delivering effective staff development to colleagues.
  • Ability to consistently provide a high-quality, welcoming and supportive learning experience for all pupils.
  • Ability to work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to make a positive contribution to the team, valuing and respecting others’ expertise and contribution

DESIRABLE

  • Evidence of recent continuing professional development, including safeguarding training.
  • Physics, Chemistry, Biology or equivalent degree at 2:1 or higher.
  • Master’s degree.
  • Experience in creating and delivering engaging and challenging programmes of study.
  • Experience in delivering teacher training or mentoring.
  • Experience in identifying and delivering effective staff development to colleagues.
  • Experience in peer observation processes.
